E SeaHorse Week – a unique horse show and competition located in the heart of Hanko, by the sea. SeaHorse Week attracts talented and famous riders to take part to this jumping competition which is mainly sponsored by the local businesses of Hanko city.
SeaHorse Week is totally free and open for public. This year there was a crowd of over 5500 people enjoying the electric atmosphere of the horse races, while sipping champagne and getting to know this traditional and glamorous sport.
Renting a villa or staying at beautiful small hotels (or even a hotel boat) in Hanko are the best ways to visit SeaHorse Week and other events the city provides during the summer. Hanko is the Hamptons of Finland!
SeaHorse Week is an annual show jumping competition organised in the end of July, in Hanko (beautiful port town on the south coast of Finland). The jumping classes go from junior ( 60 cm ) fences to sponsor grand prix (150 cm) races, from Monday till Sunday where the famous riders are competing against each other to collect the top places, prizes, and international ranking points. Junior classes have always been one focal point because SeaHorse Week wants to support the younger riders and provide them much needed competition experience for the future.
The idea behind SeaHorse Week was to organize a nationally recognizable jumping competition by the sea, in a gorgeous park environment, in the center of the city. The Finland Riding Association and Hankoniemi Riders were inspired by the annual La Baule in France and Falsterbo in Sweden, which are also internationally famous show jumping competitions and are located in similar by the sea type of areas.
Every year over two hundred volunteers from different riding clubs and 40 sponsors make this event happen and next year, in 2017, will be the 16th time this exciting competition is being held. SeaHorse Week is one of the most popular summer event in Hanko city along with Tennis Week and Regatta Race.
This year the winners of the grand prix classes were:
Junior Grand Prix: Reetta Sundberg (horse Con Lady)
LähiTapiola Future Challenge 140 cm: Antonia Hartwall (horse Adecci)
LähiTapiola Grand Prix partial race, 145 + 150 cm: Marina Ehrnrooth (horse EVLI Luikka)
For visitors, SeaHorse Week is a perfect experience for enjoying some horse race action while sipping champagne, and later on maybe wine and dine with the riders at the official after race evening in sponsor restaurants – located at the harbor overlooking the beautiful sailing boats and yachts. Hanko is also known for its gorgeous beaches and all the activities possible near by – tennis, riding, golf, sailing, go karting, windsurfing, and of course sauna and swimming facilities. Also, the restaurant and club scene has been improving and now Hanko is a popular place amongst the youth.
