Portrait of Hanka Zborowska by Amedeo Modigliani 1916, private collection.
Last week I visited Ateneum Art Museum, for Modigliani art exhition which was an experience I will cherish long time. I have seen a ballet based on Amedeo Modigliani’s life events – a life full of health problems, drama, drugs and love triangles.
I spent over two hours enjoying these paintings and athmosphere which took me back in time – in smoky cafes and glamorous studios in Montmarte Paris surronded by carismatic artists and their picture perfect muses.
For me this exhibition was amazing experience, and Ateneum Art Museum is the perfect environment for the work of a genious.

BIGGEST EXHIBITION OF MODIGLIANI WORKS IN NORDIC COUNTRIES TO DATE
Amedeo Modigliani Italian Jewish painter and sculptor
Modigliani, born in 1884 Livorno Italy was known for his nude models and portraits which represented the expressionism and unique style that kept on reforming towards finer line strokes, elongated shapes and copper shades. Modigliani surrounded himself with one of the most talented artists of its time: Diego Riviera, Jean Cocteua, Pablo Picasso, Chaim Soutine and Constantin Brâncusi to name few.
Modigliani lived short and dramatic life, suffering from weak health when he was a child. Amedeo developed a high understanding and base for renaissance art during his years in Italy – and when moving to France, the nuanced life began. Modigliani moved to the infamous hill Montmarte (Paris), which was he embodiment of penniless artists and nest for ateliers and studios of the most famous artists and movements, styles and ism’s today.
Modigliani drank heavily, using absinthe and other drugs, which was common in art scene at the time. Amedeo had few muses and great loves, first one at the age of 26. He was only 35 years old when he died of tubercular meningitis in Paris 1920, leaving us amazing art to enjoy and get a glimpse of the life: those glamorous years of devotion to passions and political pressures of the world as troubled and sensitive artist.
